Leipzig Bachfest: Johann Sebastian Bach

6,00

The city of Leipzig breathes Bach, it lives Bach, and it celebrates Bach.
Bach – especially in the annual “Bach Festival”! Leipzig was not the only Johann Sebastian Bach’s only place of activity, but it was probably the most important. Here he spent the last 27 years of his life as the Thomaskantor, whose duties included providing the four main churches of the city with music and not only to compose a new cantata for each Sunday (some 200 have been preserved!), but also to record them. The boarding students of the Thomas School, where Bach taught music, were obliged to sing in chorus. Bach’s great Passions and many of his instrumental works were also written in Leipzig. In this film, experience impressions of the Bach city of Leipzig and its “Bach Festival”, which has been celebrated since 1908 and is now held annually under a different motto each time!
