China’s largest organ, with four manuals and 113 stops, was installed in 2006 by the German company, Klais in the National Grand Theatre. The instrument is located on the front wall of the hall behind a multi-part monumental free pipe prospect in various chambers. Numerous high-pressure stops are found in the rich disposition, which includes stops of every construction and every foot pitch from fundamental voices to unusual aliquots, such as the Quarte 1 5/11′. Another special feature is the acoustically generated 64′ stop Vox balenae 64′ (from Latin: Balena = whale), which produces abyssal tones that can be felt more than heard.
The National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) is a futuristic temple of art in China’s capital Beijing, centrally located, opened in 2007. The building is popularly known as “the egg” because it imitates the shape of the egg. It is further enhanced by the reflection of the outer skin of glass and titanium in the surrounding artificial lake. The NCPA houses the Chinese National Opera of China and a concert hall with the largest organ in the country.
