Chelsea Chen
Chelsea Chen played an organ concert in the famous Walt Disney Concert Hall as recently as January 2022, one of many highlights in her eventful career. The programme included works of the French modern organ, several transcriptions and one of her own compositions – and this is a reflection of her versatile artistic activity. Chelsea Chen hails from San Diego and studied at the famous Juillard School in New York with Paul Jacobs, among others. As a Fulbright scholarship holder, she spent a year in Taiwan, where she devoted herself primarily to composition. One fruit of this time is her “Taiwanese Suite” for organ. Chen gives concerts as a soloist, but also in duo with other instruments, plays numerous world premieres and is praised for her intuitive and refreshing musicality. One critic wrote: “The pipe organ – surprise! – can really party!”
Zuzana Ferjenčíková was the first woman to win 1st prize at the International Organ Improvisation Competition in Haarlem. That was in 2004 and it was not her only competition success. Growing up in Slovakia, she received important impulses as an organist at the music conservatories in Bratislava and Vienna, but above all from Jean Guillou in Zurich and Paris. She performs his work as an interpreter at international festivals, just as she does Franz Liszt and Marcel Dupré. As a composer, she has an impressive œuvre with works for organ, piano and mixed instrumental ensembles. She is the founding president of the Vienna Franz Liszt Society. Since 2021 she teaches organ at Codarts University for Music in Rotterdam.
