Ruffatti Organ

Built in 2018 by the Italian firm Fratelli Ruffatti, Buckfast Abbey’s organ system is divided into two parts, both of which can be played from two identical four-manual consoles. The largest part of the organ, with four manuals, is located in the chancel of the church (Chancel Organ) and has, among other things, warm orchestral stops in the Solo (IV), as well as a Positive (I) with a sound inspired by the Italian Baroque. The West Gallery Organ has two manuals and is oriented towards French symphonic music in the tradition of Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. The sound of the 80-stop organ is distinguished by the two high-pressure reeds, the horizontal Pontifical Trumpet, which is equipped with stately scales and is visible on the case of the West Gallery Organ, and the sonorous Abbatial Trumpet, which is located in the triforium of the church.

Georg Stahlhuth organ

The organ of St. Martin’s Church in Dudelange was built in 1912 by Georg Stahlhuth (1830-1913) and his son Eduard Stahlhuth (1862-1916) from Burtscheid near Aachen. Georg and Eduard Stahlhuth were friends throughout their lives with the famous organ builder Joseph Merklin, with whom they learned the trade of organ building. This fact, as well as the commissions they received in England and Ireland, meant that they were one of the very few organ builders to integrate French and English sound elements into the German-Romantic organ, thus conforming to Albert Schweitzer’s “European organ building ideas” on which the specifications for the construction of the organ of 1912 were based.

J. W. Walker & Sons Ltd organ

In 1954, the renowned company, J. W. Walker & Sons Ltd. from Ruislip, delivered the present organ to the London Oratory Church. Despite the fact that the actions were still electropneumatic, the tonal conception of the total of 45 stops is already strongly oriented towards the influences of the North German organ movement. The organ prospect also takes up baroque forms, but is somewhat hidden in a low side gallery of the church.
