Xaver Varnus’ first piano teacher was Emma Németh, one of the last pupils of Debussy. He has played virtually every important organ in the world, including those in Bach’s Thomaskirche in Leipzig, Berliner Dom, Notre-Dame, Saint-Sulpice and Saint-Eustache in Paris, National Shrine in Washington, D.C., and Canterbury Cathedral, as well as the largest existing instrument in the world, the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia (1985). Organist, improviser, author, lecturer and media personality, Varnus has had a dramatic impact on the audience’s acceptance and appreciation of organ music. Over the course of his career, Varnus has played live to more than six million people worldwide, recorded fifty-three albums, made sixty concert films, and written five books. His videos have surpassed 29 million views on YouTube. His Quadruple Platinum Disc winning album “From Ravel to Vangelis” (SONY, 2007), is the best-selling organ CD ever. As a Canadian citizen, Xaver Varnus resides in Berlin, and in Nova Scotia, Canada, where he opened Varnus Hall in a 19th century church.
