As part of the Hamburg International Music Festival, Esa-Pekka Salonen takes the stage with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra to perform works by Sibelius, Berlioz and Scriabin. Iveta Apkalna will perform the new organ concerto by the star conductor and composer – a work commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio Katowice, Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonie de Paris, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.

Formerly and informally known as the Crystal Cathedral due to its impressive all-glass design, Christ Cathedral houses the fifth largest pipe organ in the world. Hazel, as the instrument is affectionately known, contains more than 17,000 pipes and over 300 stops. As Cathedral Organist and Head of Music Ministry at Christ Cathedral, David Ball brings with him an exciting programme featuring music by Bach, Gigout and Tournemire among others.

Designed for children, young people and families, Ear Opener is a digital live-concert series delivered by the Konzerthaus Dortmund. Presenter Ralph Caspers guides the audience through the concerts live from the hall in an informative and entertaining way. Together with the renowned Swiss organist Rudolf Lutz, he explores musical themes and answers all the burning questions from the audience. Programme to include Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, Hans Zimmer’s Medley from the Pirates of the Caribbean and more. Questions can be submitted directly during the livestream using the “Slido” tool.

The weekly programme Orgel City Vienna features a recording by Zuzanna Mika on the giant organ at St Stephen’s Cathedral. The instrument has recently been restored by the organ builder Rieger and now contains 130 stops shared among five manuals. Music to include Felix Nowowiejski’s In Paradisum and Organ Symphony No. 9 in F minor.
